People die on the job every summer. Remember that water and shade breaks are crucial when working in the heat, and calling emergency services for signs of serious heat illness (fatigue, nausea/vomiting, headaches, dizziness, clammy skin, confusion, agitation, slurred speech, high body temperature, rapid heart rate, etc.) is entirely appropriate. If you’re afraid to call 911 for reasons such as being undocumented, you’ll need to get very familiar with how to prevent, recognize, and treat heat illness. If you are symptomatic and not allowed a break, water, or medical treatment, walk out. No matter how broke you are, your job is not worth your life.

The narrative that “you should care about disabled people because one day that’ll be you” is ableist in and of itself.

You should care about disabled people because you should care about the disenfranchisement of a marginalized community.

Becoming disabled is not a punishment. Becoming disabled is not a threat. Becoming disabled is not cosmic retaliation for being ableist. Becoming disabled is morally neutral.

Some alarming climate news as of June 2023

    • Antarctica, which is in the dead of winter, has unexpectedly failed to reform its winter sea ice. This is an exceptional deviation from the norm that has left scientists dumbfounded.
    • The entire NE Atlantic Ocean is experiencing its most significant marine heatwave ever…by far. That area had never been a full 1°C above the 1951-1980 average. It has suddenly jumped to 1.7°C above that average.
    • A powerful heatwave has overtaken southern North America for weeks on end, with places like Texas and northern Mexico breaking daily record high temperatures.
    • In the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, sea surface temperatures are extremely high. Water temperatures are in the *90s* by the Florida coast, Miami keeps breaking daily record heat index values, and a major coral bleaching event will soon be underway.
    • The Canadian 2023 Wildfire Season will not let up, with nearly all annual records falling before we even reach the midpoint of the season. No Canadian wildfire season had ever produced 12 terawatts (TW) of fire radiative power. 2023 has produced 18TW.
    • Dramatic flood events have begun striking various countries around the world simultaneously this week.
    • El Niño has rapidly developed in recent months as sea surface temperatures across the equatorial east Pacific skyrocket. As of yet, El Niño has not impacted global weather conditions. That will change in a few months.
    • All of these events have culminated in June 2023, easily being the hottest June in Earth’s recorded history. Likely the hottest June in 115k-120k years when Earth was last this hot.

This is the bare minimum of decent human behavior for ANY gender. If you are an adult and someone who is not an adult wants to have a relationship with you, it is your duty to, at bare minimum, turn them away.

and like… having crushes on adults is a Normal Adolescent Thing, but it doesn’t mean they’re ready for–or for that matter, want–an actual relationship with said adult. it’s a goddamn developmental phase for kids working out their sexuality, and treating it as a chance to get laid is fucking monstrous.

Recommended tactics to deal with a child hitting on you:

    • “kiddo”
    • “buddy”
    • inform a friend to ensure you’re never left alone with them
    • refer to own age in conversation
    • “yeah, I know I look young, but you wouldn’t BELIEVE how awkward it is being mistakenly hit on by a teenager!”

    upon that child turning 18:

    • “Happy birthday, kiddo!”
    • “Have you registered to vote yet?”
    • “Man, being a baby adult was so hard, good luck with that”

to reiterate: minors having crushes on adults is a normal part of sexual development, but adults should NOT start a relationship and they shouldn’t act as if a minor would be an equal in said relationship because they were interested

Also! This doesn’t automatically change the minute they turn 18.

Like if you’re 30-40+ that’s still fucked up

Waiting until they’re 18 only means that you’re protecting yourself from legal trouble. You’re still a predator.

it’s been talked about plenty but it just continually blows my mind how many people are completely fixated on social justice at a macro level while totally incapable of showing basic decency to the people around them.

    #ACAB now. ACAB forever.

Defund the police. Communities can police themselves with the resources.

This headline is wild to think about. Could you imagine your field of work being labeled the leading cause of death in the entire fucking country and not having to worry about being unemployed by weeks end? I doubt any pig who reads this is even remotely worried about their job. It’s fucking insane.

Remember when someone was like “haha the funniest thing tumblr could do right now is make it so you get a badge for looking at 600 posts instead of what twitters doing lol” and then they did it. That was pretty awesome. I think the funniest thing tumblr could do right now is stop flagging trans women’s post as sexual right fucking now lol and fix prev tags and get rid of the fucking bigots and racists and nazis for once haha and also apologize for this shit. Wouldn’t that be pretty funny lol haha it would be so funny if they did this

Infant deaths surge in Texas after abortion ban
The increase in deaths reverses a nearly 10-year decline.

So it can’t get lost in reblog tags:

This article pulls zero punches. Incomplete list of potential triggers: miscarriage, medical neglect, loss of fertility, infant death, vomit, maternal trauma, mention of genetic and birth defects, and forced pregnancy.

The women named in this article have suffered, terribly, unnecessarily, because state law makers meddled in matters they didn’t understand.

Hard to swallow pills meme with the caption: Most people who die of cancer live in poor countries and many die even though they could be cured with existing medical technology. Hodgkin Lymphoma has a 93% survival rate in wealthy countries, but less than 5% in communities where treatment is inaccessible. Poverty is the world's leading cause of death, and efforts to improve health without addressing poverty are doomed to fail.ALT

PIH is working hard to reduce poverty while improving human health.
